Emotional and Brilliant. Jordan Peterson Articulates "Why Art"

"They are sacred objects and we gaze at them in ignorance and wonder, and the reason for that is... the unknown shines through them at us in partially articulated form."

After listening to (and taking notes on) over 30 hours of the absolutely incredible content professor and clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson has published on YouTube... and being moved so powerfully it brought me to my knees, literally, multiple times... by the staggering brilliance of his lectures, I just had to share this with you.

I can say with certainty that Jordan Peterson is one of the most intelligent, insightful, and deep thinking minds of our time. He has changed the way I look at the world.

On top of that... I don't think I've ever heard anyone say anything more moving or insightful about the role of art... both for artists and collectors... for all of us.

I hope you enjoy this clip. If you do, be sure to check out his work on Youtube.

This particular lecture was taken from:
The Psychological Significance of the Bible, Episode X "Abraham Father of Nations"

"Real Artists are contending with the unknown... they are possessed by it."

I mean seriously... how's this for... why art?:

"It opens your eyes to the domain of the transcendent... A real piece of art is a window into the transcendent... that's what it is... and you need that in your life because you are finite and limited, and bounded by your ignorance and your lack of knowing. And unless you can make a connection to the transcendent then you don't have the strength to prevail."

Or this?

"We need to understand the role of art and literature... and stop thinking about it as an option. It's not an option. It's NOT an option. What is it said?: "Man does not live by bread alone"... that's exactly right. We live by Beauty. We live by literature. We live by art... and LITERALLY... not metaphorically. We cannot live without it."

If you enjoy this clip... I highly recommend his series on the Psychological Significance of the Bible... attended and loved EQUALLY by an atheist and religious audience. He transcends Science vs. Religion and reveals the pragmatism of our ancient stories, myths, dreams, symbols, and art.

Thank you Jordan Peterson.
