Learning To Fly

2014, Oil on Herringbone Linen
42 x 48 inches, framed

This oil painting from 2014 “Learning To Fly” was painted during the late summer at one of the most beautiful places on the eastern coast of Massachusetts: World’s End Reservation in Hingham MA. The warm sunlight and the cool afternoon breeze next to the ocean, on top of this historic hillside make you feel like you could just spread your wings and fly.

It was a memorable time for me in my career when I was struggling to make it, but trusting in myself, and in spirit, that I could make it as an artist. I am most proud of capturing the feeling of the wind and the textural impasto of the grass shifting from cool to warm tones as the sun sets across this most peaceful of places.
